Taxonomic remark Family erected by Dzik, 1991 to include Mesotaxis Klapper & Philip 1971, ?Dinodus Cooper 1939, ?Pinacognathus Branson & Mehl 1944., ?Ancyrognathus Branson & Mehl 1934, and ?Polylophodonta Branson & Mehl 1934, however Donoghue, 2001 assigns Mesotaxis to Palmatolepidae, alongside Schmidtognathus, Klapperina and Palmatolepis.
