Taxonomic remark Originally a subfamily of Bythitidae, later a tribe (?); elevated to family by Møller et al, 2016. The same authors give authorship for this newly elevated family-group name as themselves i.e. Møller, Knudsen, Schwarzhans, Nielsen, 2016, however the name was originally erected as a subfamily (Dinematichthyinae) by Whitley, 1928 (refer Van Der Laan et al., 2014) so the family name retains this authorship despite the change of rank.
