Taxonomic remark Unused senior synonym of Pachymelania Smith, 1893. MolluscaBase (2023 version) states: Not available (nomen nudum) from Gray, 1840 [Synopsis of the contents of the British Museum, ed. 42, first printing: 147; 1842, ed. 44: 60]. Not made invalid by Vibex Rafinesque, 1815 [Muricidae], which is a nomen nudum; nor by Vibex Oken, 1815 [Lehrbuch der Naturgeschichte, 3(1): 258, 260], which was published in a work placed on the Official Index. However, Vibex Gray has consistently been treated as invalid and its junior objective synonym Pachymelania is in current use. [details]
