Taxonomic remark Group tentatively assigned to Cnidaria, although other affinities have been proposed (Thecamoebae by Dunn, 1959; algae by Górka, 1971)This order-level name is accepted by most current workers e.g. Trampisch & Butcher, 2009, although Cashman, 1992 suggested that it be abandoned since in his opinion, melanosclerites might be related to more than one order of extant and fossil Cnidaria.
