Descriptive info Marine, fossil: Jurassic (Sepkoski 2002) (as Proholothuria) [details]
Taxonomic remark Protholoturia Giebel, 1857 is the original spelling, however the emendation Protholothuria (apparently originating from Giebel, 1866) is in current use, e.g. as per the Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology (Durham, 1966) and Reich, 2013 and is thereby treated as a corrected original spelling (with authorship per the original work) in IRMNG at this time, although ideally a case should be submitted to the ICZN for formal acceptance of that spelling.
