Taxonomic remark Sometimes treated as a suborder (Ammonitina) of order Ammonoidea, the latter treated as a subclass in the PaleoBiology DB. The name Ammonitida can continue to be used at order level despite the suppression of the genus name Ammonites (and family Ammonitidae) by ICZN in 1954, because names above family-group are not formally governed by the ICZN Code.
