Taxonomic remark From Newton, 2017: A new pselaphine generic name Stanosthetus Dejean 1821: 25 was listed without description, but with a single included species “Karstenii Meg.”, which can be recognized as the species Pselaphus karstenii Reichenbach 1816: 71. Stanosthetus was subsequently considered unavailable due to the lack of a generic description (e.g., by Blackwelder 1952), but the inclusion of the available name “karstenii” makes it available according to the current Code (ICZN 1999: Art. 12.2.5). Stanosthetus has been generally overlooked in subsequent literature (e.g., by Newton and Chandler 1989), but should be added as a subjective synonym of Euplectus Kirby 1817, because its type species by monotypy (P. karstenii) is now included in the genus Euplectus. In addition, the generic name Stenosthetus, used by Griffith and Pidgeon (1831: 300) but attributed by them to Dejean, should be considered a subsequent misspelling of Stanosthetus rather than an independent name, and removed from the synonymy of Pselaphus Herbst 1791 (e.g., Newton and Chandler 1989) to accompany Stanosthetus as a synonym of Euplectus.
