Taxonomic remark See Heteroscyllium Regan 1908. (Nomen. Zool.). Originally proposed by Ogilby 1907 with species as Chiloscyllium modestum Günther, which Ogilby in 1908 (perhaps by error) placed as the type of a new genus Cirriscyllium. Goto 2001 treats Brachaelurus Ogilby 1908 as earlier than Heteroscyllium Regan 1908 and this is probably correct, but Brachaelurus Ogilby 1908 is preoccupied by Brachaelurus Ogilby 1907 and cannot be used.
