Taxonomic remark Foerstia is generally stated to be a junior synonym of Protosalvinia (e.g. see Taylor et al., 2009), although the name is still in use in some sources. The organism is of uncertain taxonomic affinity having been variously assigned to ferns, brown algae, bryophytes and/or early land plants (Nematophyta) (see additional remarks under Protosalvinia).
