Taxonomic remark When published, this genus of bacteria was considered to belong to the plant kingdom. The generic name is retained in botanical nomenclature for purposes of homonymy. (Index Nominum Genericorum). Originally described as cyanophyte. Unaccepted name (no current standing in Prokaryotic nomenclature). Apparently a usage of Schmidlea Lauterborn, 1913 (Cyanobacteria), for organism now classified as bacterium. [details]
