Taxonomic remark Genus name used in plural form ("Galeae"), sole included species as "G. Gibbum", with earlier references to Linnaeus, Klein, and others. Klein's genus (as later included in Cuvier, 1817) is equated with the fossil "Les Ananchites, Lam."; latter is a syn. of Echinocorys. Meuschen's 1787 publication (this work) is not consistently binomial although (unlike 2 chronologically adjacent works by the same author) it has not been placed on the official ICZN Index of unavailable works; most current workers treat the new names listed therein as unavailable.
