Subfamily Cichlinae [details]
Taxonomic remark Authority given in Nomen. Zool. as Agassiz, 1858. Unavailable name (nomen nudum). The entire description of the genus and species is, "A second [genus], resembling Chrysophrys, he called Hypsophrys unimaculatus." Typically this would be regarded as not available, no distinguishing features provided (from Lake Nicaragua). However, Kullander & Hartel 1996 treat as available and valid. There were so few cichlid species described at that time, that the name is considered available. (Eschmeyer). [details]
Type species as cited Hypsophrys unimaculatus Agassiz 1859 [details]
