See account of Polyacanthus Cuvier and Polyacanthus Kaup. Derijst 1997 argues that this genus appeared first as a name in synonymy in Hamilton 1822 and was validated back to Hamilton 1822 by use of name by Cuvier 1831 as cited; Tan & Kottelat 2009 disagree.
