Taxonomic remark This generic name was originally published as an alga, but is at present applied to bacteria; a number of included species are now placed in different, presently accepted cyanobacterial genera. It is retained in botanical nomenclature for purposes of homonymy. (Index Nominum Genericorum). Originally described as a cyanophyte, now considered a bacterial genus (CyanoDB). Family given as Oscillatoriaceae in WoRMS (Mar 2013), Burkholderiales incertae sedis in Euzéby online (2008). [details]
