Taxonomic remark Huxley, 1868 proposed both "Discolithus" and "Cyatholithus" as descriptive categories for coccoliths, which both Nomenclator Zoologicus and Loeblich & Tappan, 1966, treat as proposed names for genera; in ICZN Opinion 805 (1967), the ICZN apparently agreed, since Cyatholithus Huxley is suppressed in that work. However Index Nominum Genericorum considers that Discolithus (and by extension, Cyatholithus) was not a validly published generic name in Huxley's work, calling it "alleged but non-existent" (refer ING entry for Discolithina Loeblich & Tappan, 1963). Loeblich & Tappan, 1963 proposed Discolithina as a substitute name for Discolithus Huxley, however Discolithus had by that time already been validly published, as Discolithus Kamptner ex Deflandre 1952.
