Taxonomic remark Subsequently emended by Kleijne, 1991. From Nannotax3: The species taxonomy of Anthosphaera is not very well worked out, mainly because it is both rather rare and morphologically variable. The type species A. fragaria has been shown by Triantaphyllou et al. (2016) to be a life cycle phase of and junior synonym of Syracosphaera molischii. As in other similar cases it seems, however, preferable to leave the other species in Anthosphaera pending elucidation of their life-cycles. [details]
