Taxonomic remark Illegitimate substitute name for Tessella G. Playfair 1915, non C.G. Ehrenberg 1836. (Index Nominum Genericorum). Junior homonym of Tessellaria (W.P. Schimper & A. Mougeot) C.E.I. von Eichwald, 1852, a fossil lycopod; replacement name is Neotessella, refer Jo et al., 2016. Originally assigned to its own family Tessellariaceae (nomen nudum) by Playfair, 1918, subsequently to Synuraceae, then to own family (Neotessellaceae) by Jo et al., 2016. [details]
