Taxonomic remark (as subgenus of Monacanthus). Spelled Cantherhines on pp. 194 and 437, Cantherines on p. 327; first reviser not located. Cantherhinus Agassiz 1846 is an unjustified emendation. Swainson's nasutus is an unneeded substitute for sandwichiensis. Cantherines and Cantherhine are both found in current literature. Swainson misspelled Monacanthus as Monocanthus. (Eschmeyer). Type species as cited Monocanthus (Cantherines) nasutus Swainson 1839 (= Balistes sandwichiensis Quoy & Gaimard 1824) [details]
