Descriptive info Marine, fossil: Permian (Sepkoski 2002) [details]
Taxonomic remark From Nestell & Nestell, 2021: Originally, the genus [Hegleria] was placed in the tribe Spongentactiniini Nazarov 1975 of the suborder (order) Spumellaria Ehrenberg 1876 (Nazarov and Ormiston 1985), then conditionally to the family Entactiniidae Riedel 1967 of the order Spumellaria (Nazarov 1988, p. 58) or the order Paleosphaerellarida Amon 1999 (order not accepted at all) (Amon 1999, p. 190). Kozur (1993) included the genus Hegleria, considering this genus to be a junior synonym of the genus Phaenicosphaera Haeckel 1887, to the Mesozoic family Praeconocaryommidae Pessagno 1976. De Wever et al. (2001, p. 101) assigned the genus conditionally to the family Pseudolitheliidae Kozur and Mostler 1989 of the order Latentifistularia Caridroit, De Wever and Dumitrica 1999. The same assignment was made by O’Dogherty et al. (2009). Afanasieva et al. (2005, p. S277) assigned the genus to the Eocene family Conocaryommidae Lipman 1969 of the order Spongiata Afanasieva and Amon 2003 considering that the Mesozoic family Praeconocaryommidae is its junior synonym. Recently, Noble et al. (2017, p. 483) placed the genus Hegleria in the family Incertae Sedis of the order Spumellaria. [These authors place Hegleria in a new family Hegleriidae of order Spumellaria, along with Uberinterna Sashida and Tonishi 1988]. [details]
