Taxonomic remark (Pre APG placement: Boraginaceae?). Genus contains a single species (R. amboinensis) with unclear identity. Linnaeus' name based on an illustration of Tsiem-tani, an Indian tree featured in Rheede van Drakenstein's "Hortus Malabaricus"; genus unplaced to family in APG IV. Possibly represents a species of Cordia L. or Croton L. according to Willis (8th ed). Merrill, 1917 identified the species in question as Cordia tiliifolia ("tiliaefolia") (Poir.) Warb., a taxon which is difficult to trace (not Cordia tiliifolia A. Braun, a fossil); Croton is favoured by D.J. Mabberley, cited in Veldkamp, 2002. Listed in POWO (2021) as a synonym of Canarium L. in Burseraceae, presently followed in IRMNG. [details]
