Type species as cited Tyrannus giganteus (Jardiné et al.). In their original description, Wood & Tekbali, 1987 used "Tryannus" (7 instances) and "Tyrannus" (8 instances) virtually interchangeably: Tyrannus in the article abstract and elsewhere in the text, "Tryannus gen. nov." in the formal description and elsewhere. Since the derivation of name is given as "Latin, tyrannus = master, overseer. Gender masculine", the conclusion can be drawn that Tyrannus is the intended correct form and the Tryannus is a lapsus. [details]
