Taxonomic remark Appeared first in Bleeker 1861 as "Pseudoscarus psittacus Blkr." name only; apparently Bleeker was referring to Scarus psittacus" of earlier authors. In 1861 Bleeker referred to Scarus psittacus Cantor, while including 41 species in Pseudoscarus. If Pseudoscarus 1861 is regarded as available, then the type is psittacus by monotypy; otherwise, type designated by Jordan & Evermann 1898. (Eschmeyer). [details]
Type species as cited Scarus microrhinos Bleeker 1854 [details]
