Taxonomic remark Sarjeant, 1982 lists several early works by Ehrenberg (1836-1838) on fossil "infusoria" believed by him to correspond to spores his "recently described freshwater desmid Xanthodium", but not this work. AlgaeBase (2024 and earlier) attributes Xanthidium (Desmidiaceae) to "Ehrenberg ex Ralfs, 1848" so it is presumed that earlier uses of this name by Ehrenberg (such as the present one) are not validly published, for some reason.
