Taxonomic remark From Jensen, 1997: Most authors use Cruziana and Rusophycus as separate ichnogenera, emphasizing the predominant horizontal expression of the former and vertical expression of the latter (e.g., Osgood 1970; Crimes 1970; Birkenmajer & Bruton 1971; Bromley 1990). In an ethological classification, Cruziana and Rusophycus are commonly classified as, respectively, repichnion and cubichnion, though the motivation behind the traces may be the same. ... End members of Rusophycus and Cruziana are morphologically distinct, but there are intermediate forms for which assignment is difficult. [details]
