Taxonomic remark According to Frye & Feldmann (undated), quoting Moore & Sylvester-Bradley, 1957, the "genus" Anaptychus Oppel, 1856, is an erroneous citation in Nomenclator Zoologicus, as Oppel used the word merely as a morphological term describing the aptychus seen in Ammonites planorbis. Moore & Sylvester-Bradley ascribe the earliest use of this name as a genus to Schlumberger, 1868 (Bull. Soc. Linn. Normandie (2) 1 : 97) in which case it becomes a junior homonym of Anaptychus Stimpson, 1860 in Crustacea. Moore & Sylvester-Bradley further subjectively synonymise Anaptychus Schlumberger, 1868 with Sidetes Giebel, 1847. [details]
