Taxonomic remark Synonym of Metriotes Herrich-Schaffer 1853 op.cit.: 48 (Nomen. Zool.). According to ICZN Code art. 11.5, names proposed only in synonymy are unavailable names. According to Nye & Fletcher (1991), "Aplotes was established in a key on page 12. On page 48 Herrich-Schäffer replaced Aplotes by Metriotes probably as he considered the former name to be preoccupied by Aplota Stephens, 1834. Herrich-Schäffer therefore acted as his own first reviser and Metriotes has been the name in use ever since.", however this interpretation is incorrect (Aplotes was never available and could not therefore qualify for consideration by a first reviser, between multiple available names).
