Taxonomic remark Described as Dipleurozoa (=Vendobionta); listed as a pseudofossil in Häntzschel, 1975, however as an accepted genus (kingdom and phylum incertae sedis) by Retallack, 2015. In that work, some similarities are noted between Rutgersella and Vendobionta, but it is stated that Rutgersella "remains enigmatic"; Retallack, 2016 assigns to Vendobionta, order Dickinsoniamorpha. [details]
