Taxonomic remark Authority given in Nomen. Zool. as Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1847. Whitley 1970 regarded Spratella Bleeker 1870, Pls. 266, 268 as independently proposed, but the corresponding text in 1872 shows that Bleeker did not intend a new subgenus and was using Valenciennes' name.
