ICZN Opinion 982 (1972) validated Otiorhynchus Germar, 1824 while suppressing Brachyrhinus Latreille, 1802 ("[1802-1803]"), Panaphilis Dejean, 1821 and Loborhynchus Schoenherr ("Schönherr"), 1823 for priority but not homonymy, and Mecocerus Billberg, 1820 for both priority and homonymy. In ICZN. Opinion 2299 (2012), an earlier published instance of this name was discovered (Loborhynchus Dejean, 1821) which was also placed on the Official Index as a suppressed name. [details]
