Taxonomic remark Regarded by Kottelat 1988 as available from Cuvier 1829. However, Pacu Cuvier must be regarded as a name published in the synonymy of Prochilodus, and Pacu Cuvier [not Pacu Agassiz] apparently was not used as an available valid name or senior homonym before 1961 and is therefore unavailable. There were no originally-included species for Pacu Cuvier; earliest subsequent designation apparently Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1910. (refer Eschmeyer). [details]
