Taxonomic remark From Fourtanier & Kociolek, 2009: The name Amphitrite was first introduced by Cleve 1878, p. 19, but invalidly published. Kuntze 1891 proposed Amphitrite as a substitute name for Auricula Castracane 1873, non Auricula Battarra 1755. The name Amphitrite became superfluous in 1956 (see ICBN 1956) when Auricula Castracane 1873 was conserved vs. Auricula Hill 1756 and Auricula Battarra ex O. Kuntze 1891. [details]
