Taxonomic remark Pithonelloid calcareous cyst fossils, included in Thoracosphaeraceae by Elbrächter et al., 2008, but excluded following Versteegh et al., 2009; not syn. of Cadosinidae (cf. Masters & Scott, 1978) as type genera now in different fams. More recently, Wendler et al., 2013, again suggests that Pithonella has affinities with dinoflagellates. [details]
