Taxonomic remark  The type species of Taphrophila was misidentified by Rondani (1856: 185). The characters to distinguish the genus fit Antocha . If the nominal type species designated by Rondani is accepted, it would threaten stability of nomenclature and taxonomy by treating Taphrophila as the valid senior synonym of the more commonly used name Atypophthalmus Brunetti, 1911 (Savchenko et al . (1992: 322–323). Unless the taxonomic species actually involved in the misidentification is fixed (Article 70.3.2), an application to the ICZN Commission is warranted to either suppress Taphrophila Rondani, 1856 and conserve Antocha Osten Sacken, 1860 or deem reversed synonymy when these genus-group names are considered synonyms of each other. [details]

Taxonomic remark  The type species of Taphrophila was misidentified by Rondani (1856: 185). The characters to distinguish the genus fit Antocha .
