Taxonomic remark Included in Araucariaceae by Novikoff & Barabasz-Krasny, 2015, however maintained as a distinct family by Taylor et al., 2009 and other sources. Doweld, 2020 proposes that Cheirolepidiaceae be replaced by Hirmeriellaceae, nom. cons. prop., since according this source, Cheirolepidium has been subsumed into synonymy with Hirmeriella. Zhang et al., 2021 place this family in its own order, Cheirolepidiales; according to Doweld, if this placement is accepted, the correct name for the order should be Hirmeriellales Doweld, 2001, which has priority over Cheirolepidiales J.M. Anderson & H.M. Anderson, 2007. [details]
