Taxonomic remark From Renesto & Dalla Vecchia, 2017: Ji et al. (2016) ... noticed that the shape of the flippers of Typicusichthyosaurus, which supposedly distinguishes this genus from Guizhouichthyosaurus and Guanlingsaurus, is affected by preparation, thus it is not a valid diagnostic feature. In addition, the small head and the very high presacral vertebral count suggest that the specimen on which Typicusichthyosaurus is based actually belongs to Guanlingsaurus or to a closely related taxon.
