Taxonomic remark Rozellids are considered by Cavalier-Smith, 2013 and Ruggiero et al., 2015 as a class of protists within phylum Choanozoa (also followed in Index Fungorum, 2019 version). An alternative view is presented by Corsaro et al., 2014, who treat them as early diverging fungi within a new phylum Rozellomycota; an earlier treatment by Jones & Richards, 2011 also placed them within the fungi under the phylum name Cryptomycota, a name which probably has priority if a fungal affinity is followed. Wijayawardene et al., 2020 include them in phylum Rozellomycota (in Fungi) together with Microsporidia (the latter as a subphylum), but without any intermediate formal taxonomic treatment (all genera as "Rozellomycota incertae sedis"). IRMNG currently (2021) accepts Cavalier-Smith's intermediate taxonomic categories of family, order and class, and places these within Rozellomycota as per the highest level taxonomy of Wijayawardene et al. Cavalier-Smith, treating these intermediate rank names as protists, used zoological terminations (-idae, ida, -idea); if treated as Fungi, it is possible that equivalent botanical terminations should apply (-aceae, -ales, -mycetes) but such names have not been formally proposed. Alternatively, continued use of zoological taxonomic practice might be permitted if these organisms are treated as per Microsporidia, for which such an exemption is currently made. [details]
