Taxonomic remark Olson attempted to validate the name Archaeoraptor Sloan, 1999, a nomen nudum, by designating just the tail (reptile) portion of the original "Archaeoraptor" composite specimen as the lectotype of Archaeoraptor liaoningensis Sloan, however was unaware that this species had never been formally described and his attempt was also a nomen nudum, failing 2 different ICZN Code rules, refer The Theropod Database (2023 version). The species and genus were subsequently validly described from the counterpart of the same specimen as Microraptor zhaoianus Xu, Zhou & Wang, 2000. [details]
