Taxonomic remark Form Kaiser et al., 2020: Even though Esquerré et al. (2020) were aware of the nomen Nyctophilopython [as "Nyctophylopython", misspelling in Esquerré et al.] in relation to the species oenpelliensis based on their knowledge of Wells & Wellington (1985), they set it aside by lamenting the lack of evidence on the part of those authors to define this unique lineage (an irrelevant statement in relation to nomenclature; Dubois 2017), by stating that the name had not come into common use (perhaps unaware of its use by Barker et al. 2015), and by citing two works purported to support the action of setting aside the name. However, this strategy ignores the comments supporting the nomenclatural status of the Wells & Wellington works (e.g., Dubois et al. 1988 and Bouchet et al. 1990) and is insufficient to invalidate a nomen published in compliance with the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (Anonymous 1999). [details]
