Taxonomic remark See Sitophaga Gistl 1848. (Nomen. Zool.). Neave (1939) listed a number of Meigen's (1838) names as new genera, however according to Evenhuis & Pape, 2019 they were in fact later usages of names previously established by Robineau-Desvoidy. The same authors state: Fabricia of Meigen (1838: 250) is a subsequent usage of Fabricia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830, and not a proposal of a new genus. The mis-attribution seems to have originated with Gistel (1848: ix),who treated it as preoccupied and proposed the (unnecessary) new replacement name Sitophaga Gistel, 1848.The errant author attribution was thereafter perpetuated in subsequent works.
