Taxonomic remark Published as classis nova in Hibberd, 1981. From that work: Synonyms: Eustigmatophyceae Hibberd & Leedale, Nature, London 225 : 758 (1970), nomen nudum; Eustigmatophyceae Hibberd & Leedale, Taxon, 20: 524 (197 l), nomen descriptivum. The descriptive name Eustigmatophyceae, although validly published, cannot be regarded as typified under Article 16.1 of the I.C.B.N. since at the time of its publication it was not based on the name of an included genus. It is therefore proposed that the name Eustigmatophyceae be based on the genus Eustigmatos described below [i.e., in this 1981 publication], and that from this time it be regarded as automatically typified.
