Taxonomic remark The classification of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) used in IRMNG presently follows that of Ruggiero et al., 2015 and AlgaeBase, which is essentially unchanged from that presented by Round et al. in 1990 apart from re-ranking of the latter's classes to subclasses, and treating diatoms as a class rather than a phylum. More recent molecular-based work is reflected in other schemes such as that in Adl et al., 2019, however these have not yet passed into general use. [details]
