Taxonomic remark Sometimes placed in Monoplacophora; presently unplaced in Mollusca per The Paleobiology DB (2023 version, following Wagner, 2020), however other authors e.g. Zhang et al., 2021 state "Phylum, Class and Order uncertain"; from that work: some scholars still identified halkieriids as stem-group mollusks, or stem-group both brachiopods and phoronids (Zhao et al., 2017),stem-group brachiopods (Sun et al., 2018). In summary, there is a great controversy about the genetic relationship of maikhanellids. We have temporarily abandoned the phylum level taxon for lack of conclusive evidence. [details]
