Taxonomic remark From Lamsdell, 2020: ...traits of Albalimulus bottoni point towards its being a juvenile ... Albalimulus being such an early instar places it in the same position as Xiphosuroides, as it is likely that it may represent a synonym of an existing genus of Carboniferous horseshoe crab. Rolfeia (which has a body length of at least 60 mm) is also known from the Tournaisian of Scotland and is a potential candidate, however no other horseshoe crabs are currently known from the Ballagan Formation alongside Albalimulus and so no synonymy is suggested at this time.
