Taxonomic remark Authority given in Nomen. Zool. as Herre, 1926. See Hito Herre 1924. Possibly Hitoichthys was published first, but dates not fully investigated. Haig 1952 selected Hito over Hitoichthys and indicated earliest could not be determined. Herre 1953 cited both Herre 1924a and Herre 1924b and apparently considered Herre 1924a (with Hito) to have priority over Herre 1924b (with Hitoichthys). (Eschmeyer). [details]
