Taxonomic remark "Nom. rej. A homotypic synonym of Panaeolus (E.M. Fries) Quélet 1872 (nom. cons.)" according to Index Nominum Genericorum. From Index Fungorum: "Circumscription includes the type of a name (Panaeolus (Fr.) Quél. 1872) which ought to have been adopted", however according to Young, 1989, the type of Paneolus is Agaricus campanulatus Bull.: Fr. which is not included in Copelandia (type given as Panaeolus papilionaceus (Bull.: Fr .) Quelet sens. Bres.). Meanwhile Index Fungorum (2025) continues to list this genus as a syn. of Paneolus, while Hyde et al., 2024 give its status as "nom. illeg." but include as an accepted genus.
