Taxonomic remark (as subgenus of Ambassis). Spelled Whitleyia on pp. 2 and 148, as Whitleyina on pp. vii (contents), 163 (main account) and index (p. 334). Whitleyina would appear to be the intended form, but Fraser-Brunner 1955 serves as first reviser and selected Whitleyia. Whitleyia is preoccupied by Whitleyia Chabanaud 1930 in recent fishes.
