Taxonomic remark Authority incorrectly given as Lartet 1851 in The Paleobiology Database (2023 version); correct is Lapparent de Broin 2000 (Lartet described Testudo canetotiana, which is the type species of Paleotestudo). Luján et al., 2016 treat Paleotestudo as a subgenus of Testudo, although it is maintained as a genus by other workers e.g. Pérez-García, 2020. [details]
